Pinecrest is primarily residential, so most of Pinecrest's commercial area is found in shopping malls along U.S. Route 1, the village's western border. These malls include Pinecrest Center, Suniland Shopping Center, and Pinecrest Village Plaza, among others.
U.S. Route 1, also called Pinecrest Parkway, gives commuters in Pinecrest direct access to the heart of Miami. It also passes by or through multiple areas of note, including Dadeland Mall and the University of Miami to the north and Palmetto Golf Course to the south. Even better, the Metrorail allows residents to access downtown Miami via public transportation at the Dadeland South station, the southern terminus of the red and green lines, located towards the north of the village near the highway.
Pinecrest borders the city of Coral Gables. Several of Coral Gables' popular attractions include Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Chapman Trail Dog Park, and the beach at Matheson Hammock Park & Marina. Pinecrest is also bordered by the village of Palmetto Bay, containing the Palmetto Golf Course and Deering Estate historical landmark; the Kendall community, home of Miami Dade College Kendall Campus and the Killian Greens Golf Club; and the city of South Miami, where visitors can find the Shops at Sunset Place.
